I was transferred to a different store this week and am now promoting the Sony GoogleTV. This is a lot easier to sell than the 3DTV because it is cheaper ($599-$1499) and more useful. It also has a component you can add to an HDTV you already own for only $399. 3DTV does not have this ability yet.

So what exactly does it do? Here are the coolest features: (see a video demonstration, features and benefits, after the jump)

Full web browser - You can access the entire internet, not just the few media sites for streaming movies and music.

Integrated Searching -If you type in “NFL” it gives you a list of the channels and websites where you can find NFL content.

PIP – You can watch tv and surf the net at the same time with Picture-In-Picture.

Upgradeable OS – It’s powered by Android and will always update automatically.

Bookmarks – You can bookmark channels and websites on the same list.

Applications - In addition to streaming your Netflix and Pandora directly to the TV, you can download apps from the Android Market.

The Controller – You can change the channel and type from the same controller.

Flash – Unlike the Apple TV, you can view Flash content for a full web experience you’ve become accustom to on your Mac or PC.

This makes sense for a multi-tasking person like myself. I watch TV with my laptop open all the time. However, I like my laptop to be closer to my face because I read and type a lot. If my current TV had the GoogleTV capability, I would struggle to read what is on the screen. Although there is a zoom feature, it would feel like I was using my BlackBerry to view a site. While I’m online, the television show would move to a small box in the lower corner. I didn’t buy a 32″ screen to watch tiny TV. (Yes, I realize 32″ is not that big nowadays, but size is not a deal-breaker for me =P )

If you have Netflix and like to check your email during commercials, this TV is the one for you. It is definitely for the casual internet user and TV watcher. It would also make sense as a back up in case your laptop breaks and you need to access the internet. It would work better for the person who lives alone and doesn’t compete with others for TV/internet time. I can’t see sharing this remote control with someone else. I’m also not sure how kid-friendly this is either. Kids are more technologically advanced for sure, but I can’t see that they would need to multi-task like this. We don’t need another wave of Ritalin controlled youth.

The GoogleTV is a great advancement in technology. It will enhance your multi-tasking abilities. Like the 3DTV, it is a great set with added functionality that you may or may not use, but is nice to have when needed.

Last week I signed up for a promotion job that has me giving demonstrations of Sony’s 3D TVs at the local Best Buy. I haven’t seen any of the movies that have come out in 3D. None. My reasons are many, but that is neither here nor there. When I saw the commercials for 3D TVs coming out, I thought it was a stupid idea. Who wants to watch TV with those doofy glasses on?? Not me. I’m good, thanks. But, now I have to convince people to buy into something I’m not fully sold on myself. Great.

I had to be trained on the TVs prior to my first day. I watched a video demonstration of how it works and what bells and whistles it has. I learned the terminology (1080p, Motionflow, LED) and the selling points (streaming internet and widgets). But I’m a hands-on learner, so I knew my first day was going to require some play time. All I needed was to see the picture quality.

I wish I could show it to you on here, but you have to see it for yourself. It is not exactly like the 3D movies where things jump out of the screen to scare and excite you. It’s more like looking through a window at something happening live. The demo videos include a snippet of an Ohio State football game, which was all I needed to sell me on it. Football in 3D is insane.

The price range of a Sony 3D TV is $1349 (40 inch) to $4499 (60 inch). That is well above what is in my budget for a TV. Especially when 3D technology is so limited right now. The only channel that is currently available in 3D is ESPN, which is the station I watch the most, but that is not convincing enough for this kind of investment. It also doesn’t help that I don’t own a PS3 or Blue Ray player. Basically, this TV is not a “best buy” for me. Yet. It is good, however, for those of you who are already Sony customers and are looking for an upgrade. Or, if you are just looking for the highest quality 2D TV with 3D capabilities for the future.

Everyone who dons those glasses and watches the demo with me loves the quality of the picture and can’t believe how awesome it is. I whole-heartedly agree. It rocks. I want it. Maybe someday. Unless @OmariWorld convinces me of something better.

Looking for a computer?? Look no further with this Apple 1. One of the very first apple computers ever made. Comes complete with keyboard and thats about all I can see. Apple is going to be auctioning off one of the very first computers they ever made. It is said it should sell for close to $250,000. My question is, why do they need the money? This is like a yard sell for Apple. But if you’re in the market for a computer, this is a great buy. Only problem, it is being sold in London, England and I don’t think you will be able to play games on it (where is the monitor?) but I hear it comes already installed with the new version of iTunes. Much fun to the buyer of this paper weight. I could think of a few more things on which I would rather spend a quarter of a million.

Everybody knows about Apple TV and now Google TV. But not everybody knows about the first decent streaming media box on the market, Roku. For $99.00 they are claiming to deliver HD (1080p) content to your living room with no monthly fee other than your monthly broadband bill. So the question I had is what can you watch? Get instant access to Netflix, Roku Newscaster, UFC, MLB.TV, Vimeo and more. Said to be coming soon is HULU PLUS & Amazon Video. Sounds like a decent deal for a “Franklin”. Still no reason to walk away from Cable TV but a step in the right direction.
